Hello 25!

Happy Birthday to me. It was not long ago I made a bucket list of things to do before I turn 25. I slept and woke up and then boom: “Happy Birthday Anie baby, you’re getting old.”

Whettttt!!! I don’t want to get old 😩. Growing up isn’t as fun as I want it to be. A lot of responsibilities and expectations. I can remember my 13th birthday vividly. Time kept ticking with happy New Year. I’m getting really worried about getting older. I was on a video call with my dad some weeks back and he was covered with these white beards. It looked sexy but all I could think of was, “when did my dad get so old without me noticing”? It made me think further about death and some very deep thoughts only weird people like me have.

Most times we think about several things when we are getting old. You’ll  likely even get depressed when you see younger people achieving so much if you’ll get to compare yourself with them. For a lady, you’ll likely be stressed about the pressure of having a relationship that will lead to marriage. I just want to thank God I’m ageing gracefully. He’s been so faithful.

I read this quote the longer I live, the more beautiful life becomes- Frank Lloyd Wright

So I’ll just run through my list once again and see how far I’ve gone with them.

1. Fitness goal.

This is still a no no for me. Last year I tried working out. I checked my weight after two weeks and I lost only 1kg. I wasn’t motivated further so I decided to allow nature take its course. I actually wanted to lose some weight and I’ve lost 15kg within the space of 7 months. I don’t feel good about it. My next fitness goal would be squats.

2. Go a week offline on social media

When I wrote this, it didn’t look possible but your girl has gone up to two months offline. I’m now used to it.

3. Finish 100 books in a year

Story of my life. I’m no longer the avid reader everyone used to know. I’m now struggling but I’m working on it. I miss reading and learning new things from what I read.

4. Save up to 6M (in Naira) in an emergency fund.

Okurrrrr!!! I have savings but then it is way less than that figure you’re looking at.

5. Donate to charity regularly.

Yelssss again. If you know me well, this is a green tick. It was not even meant to be on this list. I’m happy about this. People in the world need food, clothes, shelter, etc. I try my best in my own little way.

6. Plan something with your best friend.

All of you gather here. The plan is still on. Give me some more time.

7. Step out of my comfort zone and try something I would never consider before.

I finally went the club and no, I did not enjoy it. Dance audition??? Lewl but I’m now a belly dancer.

8. Volunteer.

Yaaaaay….I finally did this with HOPE foundation. It has been an amazing experience working with teenagers, giving to the poor. I look forward to more volunteering services I’m passionate about.

9. Go to bed before midnight… and become a morning person.

Can we have a good laugh? Who sees my status at 3am? Yh, with this corona thingy, I now sleep 6am and I am definitely not a morning person. Call me 12pm onwards.

10. Take myself out to the movies.

I’m yet to do this.

11. Book plane tickets to somewhere I’ve always wanted to go.

Mad o…. Still very much on my bucket list.

13. Have an established fashion line, life painting of myself by me and have a bakery.

I still have passion for them but I’ve not taken them seriously.

14. Stop holding grudges.

I’m a happy person. I forgive you. It’s now part of me.

15. Start a collection.

I actually started a sea shell collection, painted a few but I didn’t get enough space to show off my craft and keep them where I wanted in my room.

16. Shop without looking at the price tag.

Guess who now shops in H&M, Zara, Mango or who gifts people M & S? I don’t look at the price tag like the normal me but I now forfeit my future expenditure.

17. A multi-day/weekend music festival.

When I go to Italy or Paris …

18. Overcome a fear.

I’m an introvert but recently I’ve been doing better with crowds. I hate public speaking but after a presentation in class last semester, my lecturer came to me and said “you should be a TV presenter”. I was worried before then, you can’t imagine the joy.

19. Join a club.

I’m an inactive member of a number of clubs from book clubs, to fashion society where I joined to get lit pictures and they turned out horrible and I decided not to go again. There’s also fintech and business society where I am a bench warmer.

20. Treat myself to something really expensive.

I did the most unthinkable last week. But yh something really expensive. I still feel it in my bones.

21. Be the first person to apologize.

I’m better at this.

22. Forgive myself for mistakes.

I got myself new piercings because I was down. It didn’t feel right but I feel better. Healing is a process.

23. Eat really expensive food.

I do this on dates but I cook my own expensive food. I’ve not exactly gotten the right treat.

24. Pick a cause and be passionate about it.

So I have this small group I created with a few of my single female friends. What we do is encourage each other because we are in trying times and we’ve gone through a lot. The pressure of faith, relationships, work, etc. I’m glad it is serving its purpose. I love you girls.

25. Become a connoisseur in something.

Not yet.

And the 26th one is just extra sauce

26. Spend more time praying in the Holy Spirit

Yes and yes but I’ve not been consistent.
