A Mile In Your Moccasins

Gradually you’re turning to the person you never said you’d be. You’re doing all the things you swore you’d never be caught doing. Finally you accept it as a lifestyle and make it who you are.

We probably did not know what it felt like to experience the world in another person’s perspective and view life from their living conditions before we said we would never be like them or act the way they do.

Most times from our comfort zone or naivety, it’s easier to do the right things because that’s how we were taught to behave. Stepping into our youthful age, we become frivolous. We see the wrong things as normal.

It’s easy for us to assume when we have money, we’d invest in everything, but when there is money, we spend extravagantly and become a spendthrift.

In a state of poverty, several people resort to doing despicable crimes that weren’t in their original life plan. People cheat others to make a living, others steal, etc. Some employees start honestly and with promotion, they think it’s time to embezzle the company’s funds.

When we see things on social media like domestic helps physically abused, we start a trend on Twitter and Facebook How about your actions when you get one? You overreact and the savage inside you suddenly comes alive.

Politicians will always criticize those in power, when they get there, they won’t even remember those people in need. Alliance is formed only with the rich. They is no hope for the poor. Citizens will always abuse lawmakers and government in power . What happens when they are placed in that position? Only very few people are true to their word. Sometimes all it needs, is leaving what is familiar to us and see if our integrity still stands.

Can you be able to live amidst branded ‘sinners’ and their circumstances and still be you? How long can you stay before you pick up little of their habits, make it your own and decide that that’s the life you’re meant to live? We have several habits either good or bad, either ways it didn’t just happen. Something always leads to it. On Christmas morning 2014, my friend’s brother was murdered and people were jubilating that he’s gone. This is someone that passed through the Sunday School class every Sunday and Children class where we were taught fighting is bad. He became a notorious cultist and I kept thinking what ever happened down the line. Some people change their faith, it doesn’t matter if they were in the choir or head of evangelism.

Personally I see myself get so angry that I say things I don’t mean and I end up hurting those I truly care about. In my head I’m like ‘this isn’t me, I just reacted in the worse way possible’. I unconsciously do what I hate. Sometimes I feel so depressed that it’s really scary. Most times I feel it’s my job to talk to people that feel down. Why do I handle mine differently? Why can’t I take my own advice to others? Why do I give up easily? Why do I get so pessimistic when my goals are set so right? It happens a lot. If I did not go through certain things I won’t know I was capable of doing certain things I despised.

Our desires are so strong to be influenced by our environment and as humans it takes the grace of God for us not to fall.

This is where the HolySpirit comes in. He is real and not a vague force. Letting Him in will bring out the best of you. He will teach you all things. He has the intellect, emotion and will to do things. He tells you the truth about the character of Jesus. He produces all the fruits of the spirit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Rather than doing it on our own, make room for Him so He can convict us of God’s truth. We should allow him take more and more control over areas of our lives. Then no matter how we feel or where we are, we still have direction and guidance to do what we have to and what not to do.

John 14:15-17 “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” V. 26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

John 16:13 “to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
