Bucket List: 25 Things to do Before You Turn 25

Thinking back to my childhood and daydreams about my 21st birthday, I was kind of convinced I would be living up my dreams in my career, working in the World Bank even as an intern for a start. I even fancied myself as a world traveler, backpacking across Europe and spending my days sipping wine with the world’s most fascinating people, meeting world’s best sellers and having my contributions on their paperbacks.
Ok my dreams didn’t turn out as I planned because I’m 22 and I’m learning how to say Bonjour with the proper accent ???.  My twenties is meant to be a time of adventure and fun. But I’m extremely boring. Two days back my parents had to ask me why I’m really quiet?(ok that came as a shock because I know I’m not).

To fill my time between now and turning twenty five( that’s not so far because the year is running really fast), I’ll be attempting to be a little bit impulsive and more responsible, to fix my undeniably bad and self-destructive habits, to make goals and surpass them and finally, to make memories I will never forget.
1. Fitness goal.
I’ve tried severally keeping fit. I’ve done sit-ups for like a week in a row, jogged by 5:30am for 15mins, for 3 days but truly who am I deceiving because I couldn’t find results. I want to start my physical goal without looking for waist trainers to buy so I won’t sit-up. I need that killer body and the junks I love won’t allow me to be great. I must hit the gym atleast thrice a week. Pls you guys help me keep up.

2. Go a week offline on social media

I dunno how possible this is but I’m willing to give it a try especially ‘Wuzzup’ and Twitter. Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram isn’t so much of an issue to me. Atleast I won’t be an Aproco for a while.

3. Finish 100 books in a year

I’ve always been an avid reader but recently I can’t say what’s going on with me. Reading has numerous benefits to mention. My goodreads account is a bit shaky. I’ve not updated the last book I started months ago. I want to accomplish it atleast 40 books before I turn 23 and then 100 every year before I reach 25.

4. Save up to 6M(in Naira) in a emergency fund.

The plan is to figure out how much I need to save every month to reach this goal. I can’t be running up and down because I need money for something trivial.

5.Donate to charity regularly.

Yelssss. I’m a cheerful giver so this wouldn’t be so hard for me I guess. But it’s on my to-do-list and I really have to put my heart into it.

6. Plan something with your best friend.

I have a truckload of BFF’s and I don’t know how it’s possible but it’s true and my sister is part of the team. I just want a vacation where we’d go to one Island and lodge in one expensive hotel with the view of the ocean, go to the beach, act like 12 year olds, pick sea shells, wear something eye catching in our not so perfect bodies, look and the blue sky and sip some magaritas.

7. Step out of my comfort zone and try something I would never considered before.

Can that be clubbing? I’ve never seen how a club looks like except in movies and snapchat stories. It’s not really something I’ve seriously considered doing. So that one should be on hold till I make another bucket list. I think it’s going for dance audition. I know that’s very laughable because I am not so flexible. I’m not sure what it will be yet, but when the time comes, I hope I rise to the challenge.

8. Volunteer.

Along the lines of donating to charity, it’s something I’ve always really wanted to do but never have. So this year, I will make an effort to find somewhere to volunteer in my city. I’ve applied to several NGOs. Hopefully this summer I’ll be part of HOPE foundation and The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC).

9. Go to bed before midnight… and become a morning person.

I’ve always wanted to be a morning person and yet somehow I have never convinced myself to get out of bed at the ungodly hour of 5am. This is my year. I’m too sure.

10. Take myself out to the movies.

Sometimes I  sleep in the cinemas because I’m hardly interested in movies. For a change I’ll go alone to see something that might interest me.

11. Book plane tickets to somewhere I’ve  always wanted to go.

I’ve had a thousand places I’ll like to visit but the first on my list is The island of Oahu, Honolulu where I can get mix of activities that hiking around the Manoa falls, shopping in the Ala Moana Center, Beaches, etc and the first step to making it happen is booking the tickets.

13. Have an established fashion line, life painting of myself by me and have a bakery.

Well these are things I have passion for.

14. Stop holding grudges.

This is very necessary because every once in a while I think of one guy that’s owing me and to be honest I feel like arresting him. Past grievances are overrated. I don’t need negativity in my life and I definitely don’t need it over something  that happened years ago.

15. Start a collection.

Something fun, quirky and totally me.  I want to be passionate about it but not a hoarder. My collectable of choice is jewelries. They are beautiful accessories and and bring back memories from places I’ve visited.

16. Shop without looking at the price tag.

Not Everytime o but atleast once in 3months.

17. A multi-day/weekend music festival.

Spending days away from responsibility, relaxing, and listening to good music? My choice would be classical music. I’ll find it more refreshing and soothing.

18. Overcome a fear.

Sometimes my fears hold me back, but I won’t  let them anymore. I’ll take  steps to overcome my fear of public speaking and trying something new. Once I know what I am capable of, anything is possible.

19. Join a club.

Real clubs not just resume fufilling ones. A book club will do for me.

20. Treat myself to something really expensive.

…and pay for it in cash. Whether it’s a Hermes Birkin handbag or a weekend away at an upscale resort and spa, I totally deserve it for working hard.

21. Be the first person to apologize.

It’s hard to admit when the other person is wrong. But it’s usually for the greater because it’s easier to admit to a fault and people  will be less likely to hold a grudge against you.

22. Forgive myself for mistakes.

Realizing I made a huge mistake by passing over an amazing job offer might seem like the end of the world, but it’s not. This goes along with letting go of grudges–don’t hold them against myself.

23. Eat really expensive food.

I love food. And it becomes sweeter in my mouth when I spend more money getting it. I’ll treat myself (and maybe my significant other) to a meal at one of the world’s top restaurants. Lemme find out what all of the fuss is about and indulge in food made by someone who invented the cooking method.

24. Pick a cause and be passionate about it.

Whether it’s cancer research or clean water, donate and make efforts to help others and advance your cause. Don’t just say you’re interested in a cause, go live it and be it — volunteer your time, fundraise or donate. Change doesn’t happen by sitting at home on your couch.

25. Become a connoisseur in something.

Whether it’s cheese, wine, tea or coffee, your garnered knowledge will always help you make small talk but also enrich your life in ways you haven’t even imagined.

And the 26th one is just extra sauce

26. Spend more time praying in the Holy Spirit

This shouldn’t be negotiated for me. Atleast 1hour everyday with intense study of God’s word. I want it to be part of me totally.
