The Sound of My Colour
Pink
When I was a child, I was always in tune with my favorite hue,
It made me feel like I was girlie enough, and that meant attractive.
Looking at my rulers, my journals, and my dresses,
I unearthed the long-lost princess within me,
At least it made me feel like royalty—
A world wrapped in candy-floss dreams and sweet, innocent whispers.
Purple
Then I shifted from visuals to scents,
As lilac and lavender became my quiet companions.
In the air freshener that filled my room,
In the fabric softener that brushed against my skin,
My clothes weren’t purple, but their calmness enveloped me,
Reminding me of my first favorite color,
Yet this time, I felt the weight of growing up,
A deeper understanding beneath the surface.
Grey
I remember my first grey sweater,
A humble fabric that felt like a second skin.
It was dull, perhaps, but it matched my mood,
A reflection of my life, a quiet acceptance.
I wore it with everything, a chameleon blending in,
In the crowd, I found solace,
Neither girlie nor tomboy, just me,
Not black, so I didn’t drown in despair,
But floated in a muted, soft space.
Yet
I couldn’t let go of my previous favorite colors;
The grey gave me comfort, a shield from the world’s chaos.
But beneath those layers of fabric and fleeting trends,
Echoes of vibrant shades lingered,
Reminding me of who I was—
A journey that continues to unfold.
So I navigate through shades, from pink to purple’s embrace,
Finding beauty in every hue, crafting my own narrative.
Because life is a canvas, painted with joy and heartache,
Each color telling the story of who I am,
A tapestry woven from the threads of experience.
